Thank you to everyone who came to see the Christmas trees that were on display in our hut during the tree festival which took place in December.
There 16 wonderful trees on display, including trees decorated by the Knebworth WI, pupils at Knebworth Primary School, the Guide Dogs Association, Stepping Stones Pre-School, Knebworth Library, the Twinning Association, the Trefoil Guild and of course, our Scout and Guide units.
There was a craft table for our younger visitors and we ran a cafe serving hot chocolate and mince pies. Special thanks to Knebworth Co-op and Tesco Broadwater who generously donated refreshments for the event.
Thank you to all the groups that took part and special thanks to Caz, Rebz and all their helpers who ensured that everything ran smoothly.

The girls had a lot of fun getting our scarecrows ready for the Knebworth Scarecrow Festival. Thank you to everyone who supported this event. We have got lots planned for the girls as we look forward to Halloween, Bonfire Night and of course Christmas! We will be taking part in the Knebworth Remembrance Day Parade on Sunday 10th November alongside the Scouting Group. Some of our group will be heading to the Pot Stop in Knebworth to paint some Christmas Tree decorations.
The Guides have been continuing with their Be Well skills builder, getting to know each other and their different personalities better. They have also been exploring the Art of Foley, making their own realistic sound effects using everyday household items. The most popular sound was the popping of a packing air bubble which sounded just like a champagnecork popping out of the bottle!
They had an evening at the Canyon for their annual campfire - lot's of marshmallows were toasted and songs sung.
Guide leaders were delightd to present Erin with her Bronze award - only the 5th time this has been awarded. She completed her Know Myself and Have Adventures theme awards to acheive this. Many congratulations to Erin for this fantastic aheivement.
Our Leaders work really hard to plan activities and badges that are enjoyable, exciting and challenging and we are always looking for people (age 18+) to help us at our meetings on a Thursday evening. This can be each week or only occasionally, whatever time you can spare, we will be pleased to see you.
Our immediate concern is the sad news that our Assistant Scout Leader will be leaving us at the end of the year. So we are in urgent need of someone to support of Scout Leader Siobhann.
So, whether as an occasional helper or you are interested to know more about being part of our Leadership Team, please contact me at gsl@knebworthscoutsandguides.co.uk, I will be delighted to hear from you.

Beavers
So far this term we have done a litter pick, some leaf rubbings for a display at the library and been working on our International Badge. We have a joint Beaver sleepover with another Herts Beaver group and a visit to Pets At Home coming up very soon. In November, we will be investing our newest Beavers, going to the Remembrance Day parade, doing some work on our Cook Badge and trying some experiments. We have the opportunity to help in the community with a Foodbank Donation Drive at Hatfield Asda, where along with our parents, we will give out leaflets and collect donations. In December, we are doing some other badge work, some Christmas crafts and getting involved in our Christmas Tree Festival and the annual Group Christmas Post.
Cubs
This term we are learning about maps and compasses – about the different symbols and how to read maps and use them with a compass. We have also made our scarecrows for the Village Scarecrow Festival. Going forward we are preparing our display for the Village Community Library based on Remembrance Day and participating in the national UK Parliament Week – learning what it does and how it works. We are also planning our entry for the Group’s Christmas Tree Festival and will be helping deliver Christmas Cards in the village as part of the Group’s annual Christmas Post Service.
Scouts
We are currently working on our Electronics Badge, learning about the different components – resistors, capacitors and the symbols used in circuit diagrams. We will learn how to use a Multimeter and about safe working practices, when handling components, circuit boards and soldering. We will complete our badge by making 3 simple circuits.
In November, we are planning to enter the District Night Hike Competition and prepare our display for the Village Library display. Finally ideas for the Troop’s entry to the Group’s Christmas Tree Festival are being formulated and we will help with the Group’s Christmas Post deliveries around the village.
